Winter without skiing or sledging down a hill wouldn’t be proper winter. There is no shortage of good hills here, which are well-suited for skiing or sledging. Those looking for extreme experiences can speed down a hill in a tube or on a pair of mountain skis. While winters often tend to be poor or short elsewhere in Estonia, this is hardly ever the case in Haanja Uplands in the heart of Võru County.
The low temperature and high precipitation makes Haanja a snow kingdom – almost all snow-related indicators are the highest here.
Winter in Võru County offers excellent opportunities for practicing any kind of winter hobbies. The cross-country skiing trails of various difficulty levels found in Haanja-Kurgjärve and the Haanja shooting range are well-known for all ski fanatics. The health and skiing trails of Kubija, the slalom skiing slopes of Kütioru, the lakes alluring fishermen and sledging hills for children, the dog sled rides – visit Võru County for true experiences!
